JSON formatter and validator

Validate JSON and add indentation to make it easier to read.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste complete JSON without comments or trailing commas.
  2. Choose indentation and format.
  3. Inspect values and keys; syntax validation does not check an API schema.

An example you can verify

Find syntax errors and make a compact JSON response readable.

Example input

{"ok":true,"n":2}

SettingsIndentation: 2 spaces.

Expected result

{
  "ok": true,
  "n": 2
}

Use double quotes and avoid trailing commas. Very large numbers and duplicate keys follow JavaScript parser limitations.

JSON formatter and validator: uses and practical guidance

Formatting JSON makes a single line of data easier to read and inspect. It helps review a sample API response, configuration or record collection. Indentation visually separates objects, arrays and values, but does not itself change their intended role in another application. Choose two or four spaces according to the receiving project’s convention. The purpose is readable structure, not automatic correction of the meaning of fields or the contract expected by a service.

Validation checks JSON syntax, including quotes, separators and supported structures. Comments and trailing commas from other formats are not accepted. A syntactically valid document may still fail an API requiring particular fields or types. A property containing a date or identifier is not proven valid for its receiving system merely because the enclosing JSON parses successfully. Schema and domain validation are separate steps that need the application’s actual rules.

Processing uses the browser’s parser. Very large numbers can lose precision, and repeated keys inside an object retain the last value. Do not treat the output as a faithful preservation of numeric representations beyond that precision. Keep the original and represent identifiers as strings when the data contract requires it. Readable formatting does not guarantee retention of every textual detail present in the input representation, even when ordinary values appear unchanged.

Inspect main keys, record count and representative values before copying. When an error appears, review its context instead of deleting punctuation at random until parsing succeeds. JSON minifier gives compact output, and CSV to JSON converts a table into objects. Checking the expected structure against an application schema remains an additional review rather than a capability of this formatting tool.

A practical check before using the result

For a configuration trial, include an object, array and string containing punctuation. Confirm indentation clearly separates levels and ordinary values remain. If an API rejects output, inspect its contract rather than assuming a syntax problem. A correctly named field can still have the wrong type. Keep a receiver accepted sample as a structural reference. Examine large numeric identifiers before and after, and do not use this serialization to preserve their exact representation. Data review should precede using output in an integration. Formatting makes that review easier, but successful parsing does not mean the application will accept every field or interpret it as intended.

Continue your task

Download the result or copy the text before opening another tool. Then load or paste it into the next step; content is not transferred automatically.

Review table data

Keep codes such as 001 intact when converting to JSON, inspect the data and export when ready.

  1. Convert CSV to JSON
  2. Inspect the JSONHere
  3. Export back to CSV

When opening the CSV in a spreadsheet, import code columns as text to preserve leading zeros.

Settings and limits

Paste JSON and choose 2 or 4 spaces of indentation. Quotes, separators and structures are validated before producing the result.

Frequently asked questions

Are numbers and duplicate keys preserved?

The browser’s JSON parser is used. Numbers beyond JavaScript precision can change; the last duplicate key is retained. Do not use this tool to preserve very large integers.
