CSV to JSON

Convert a CSV table to a JSON array using the first row as column names.

Private: it runs in your browser and what you type is never sent anywhere. How to check it

The first row is the header. Values remain strings.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste the complete table including its header row.
  2. Choose its actual delimiter and convert to JSON.
  3. Check keys, record count and codes with leading zeros.

An example you can verify

Convert a table while preserving codes and values as text.

Example input

name,code
Ana,001

SettingsDelimiter: comma.

Expected result

[
  {
    "name": "Ana",
    "code": "001"
  }
]

The first row must have unique names. Code 001 retains its zeros; numeric types are not inferred.

CSV to JSON without losing leading zeros

Codes such as 001 remain strings. The first row supplies column names; quoted cells can contain commas and line breaks. Choose your table’s actual delimiter before converting.

CSV to JSON: uses and practical guidance

Converting CSV to JSON transforms a textual table into an array of objects. The header row defines keys and each data row contributes a record. It helps prepare API examples or move a table into an application expecting JSON. Identify the actual delimiter first: commas, semicolons and tabs are not interchangeable with characters belonging inside cells. The chosen separator needs to match the source representation for columns to be interpreted correctly.

Quotation rules allow delimiters and line breaks inside a cell. Do not repair a problematic CSV by removing every quote, because names or notes may contain legitimate commas. Check that headers are recognizable and do not create ambiguous keys. If output columns appear shifted, inspect the original structure and selected delimiter before manually modifying objects. Fixing the input interpretation is usually more reliable than compensating for it across many generated records.

Cells remain strings to preserve codes, leading zeros and representations that should not become numbers automatically. This prevents “0012” from losing its prefix, but means a quantity can also appear as text. The recipient must decide which fields require numbers, dates or booleans. Table conversion does not validate that contract or understand the meaning of each column from its heading. Review the expected types in the application using the result.

Verify record count, an empty cell, a leading zero code and a note containing quotes. Retain the source CSV for resolving discrepancies. JSON formatter helps inspect the output, while JSON to CSV provides the reverse workflow. A round trip can change textual formatting without changing ordinary values, so compare data and structure rather than requiring byte for byte equality of the two format representations.

A practical check before using the result

For import review, compare the first and last CSV rows with their corresponding objects and count all records. Include a quoted cell containing the delimiter to check interpretation. Prepare an explicit type conversion when the receiver requires numbers rather than manually removing quotes throughout the result.

Continue your task

Download the result or copy the text before opening another tool. Then load or paste it into the next step; content is not transferred automatically.

Review table data

Keep codes such as 001 intact when converting to JSON, inspect the data and export when ready.

  1. Convert CSV to JSONHere
  2. Inspect the JSON
  3. Export back to CSV

When opening the CSV in a spreadsheet, import code columns as text to preserve leading zeros.

Settings and limits

Paste CSV, choose the delimiter and convert. The first row must have unique, nonempty column names. Every cell remains text, including leading zeros. Escaped double quotes and line breaks within cells are supported. Maximum 10,000 rows, 200 columns and 1 million characters.

Frequently asked questions

Are numbers and dates converted automatically?

No. Cells remain strings to preserve codes, dates and leading zeros. Column names are preserved too.

Is it free, and do I need to sign up?

Yes, it is free. You do not need to sign up, create an account or install an app, and there is no daily quota: open the tool and use it. The only limits are file sizes, which protect your device’s memory.

Is my data sent to any server?

No. What you type or paste is processed in your browser’s memory and is not sent to any server. You can check it in the browser’s Network tab or by going offline after the page has loaded.
