Compress video
Reduce a video’s file size by choosing a compression level and, optionally, a lower resolution.
Private: it runs in your browser and your file is never uploaded. How to check it
MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV · up to 500 MB · processed on your device, the file is never uploaded.
You can also drag a video onto this page.
Your files are processed here, on your device
We do not send the contents of your files or text to any server: everything is processed in your browser’s memory. No account is needed, there is no daily quota and we use no analytics or trackers. Each tool has size limits to protect your device’s memory.
A connection is only needed to load the site. After that you can disconnect and the tools keep working (some previews may need the connection). Hosting may receive technical visit data. Favorites store only tool identifiers in this browser.

Compress video: uses and practical guidance
Choose a video, the compression level (light, balanced or maximum), the maximum resolution and the output format. The video is re-encoded on your device to a target quality, so the final size depends on the content: scenes with a lot of motion or noise weigh more. Lowering the resolution reduces size far more than raising compression. If the result is not smaller than the original, no download is offered and you are told to try a stronger level. Audio tracks are kept and also re-encoded. Compression is lossy and the input limit is 500 MB.
Compress video. The video is opened and processed in your device’s memory and is never sent to a server, so speed depends on your computer and the file size. Copying tracks without re-encoding is almost instant; re-encoding can take several minutes for long or high-resolution videos. While it works, the page shows progress and a cancel button. Keep the tab open and visible until it finishes, because some browsers slow down background tabs. The 500 MB limit protects device memory. If the file is larger, split it into parts first. The original is never modified: the tool creates a new file that you download.
Compress video. Play the complete result before using it: check that picture and sound stay in sync, that no seconds are missing at the start or end, and that quality is sufficient for your purpose. Open the file in another player or in the application where you will publish it, because every platform has its own limits for duration, size and format. If the result does not play, try MP4, the most compatible format. Always keep the original video until you have verified the new one, and do not overwrite the source file. If the video contains personal data, remember that this tool does not hide faces or voices: it only changes the file.

Frequently asked questions
Is it free, and do I need to sign up?
Yes, it is free. You do not need to sign up, create an account or install an app, and there is no daily quota: open the tool and use it. The only limits are file sizes, which protect your device’s memory.
Does it leave a watermark on the result?
No. Snipshed adds no watermark, logo or text of its own to the files you download: the result is yours exactly as you configured it.
Can I compress a video without losing quality?
Compressing means re-encoding, so some detail is lost; the stronger the level, the more visible it is, especially with motion or small text. Start with the balanced level, and if the result is not smaller the tool does not offer a download.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, from your phone’s browser (Safari, Chrome…) and without installing any app. When it finishes, the file is saved from the browser itself: on iPhone it appears in the Files app and on Android in Downloads. With very large files the phone may run out of memory; try a smaller file or a computer. Video operations need a recent browser with WebCodecs, such as current versions of Safari and Chrome.
