Crop PDF margins
Hide page edges by changing the visible PDF crop area.
Private: it runs in your browser and your file is never uploaded. How to check it
Leave blank to apply the same crop to every page.
Amount hidden from the visible top edge.
Use small values and check tables, signatures and codes.
Use it to hide empty footers or scan marks.
Cropping follows the visible orientation of each page.
Your files are processed here, on your device
We do not send the contents of your files or text to any server: everything is processed in your browser’s memory. No account is needed, there is no daily quota and we use no analytics or trackers. Each tool has size limits to protect your device’s memory.
A connection is only needed to load the site. After that you can disconnect and the tools keep working (some previews may need the connection). Hosting may receive technical visit data. Favorites store only tool identifiers in this browser.
How we handle your data →How to use this tool
- Load the document and select pages that need cropping.
- Enter millimeters per edge; leave 0 for edges to retain.
- Inspect headers and footers: hidden content remains inside the file.
An example you can verify
Hide scan edges to improve the presentation of its visible area.
Example input
A sheet with outer margins; crop 5 mm per edge.
Expected result
Smaller visible area without deleting hidden objects.
This is not private-data redaction. Check the view in another reader and keep the original.
Crop PDF margins: uses and practical guidance
Cropping PDF margins adjusts the visible page area to remove excess space around a scan or exported document. It can make reading easier on a small screen and stop a viewer from showing too much surrounding white space. Inspect several pages before choosing crop measurements. A header, signature or marginal note may extend further towards an edge than the main body text, even when the cover looks safely centred.
This operation changes the visible page boundary. Content outside that boundary remains inside the file and may be recovered using other tools. Cropping therefore cannot securely hide a personal detail or permanently erase an annotation. If the intention is to remove sensitive information, use a redaction method that actually removes the relevant content and independently verify the resulting document. A smaller visible page should not be treated as evidence that hidden objects were deleted.
Start with a moderate crop and open the copy at a comfortable reading size. Inspect all four edges, footers and any landscape sheets. Cropping too aggressively may cut off characters in print or make a table look incomplete. File size does not necessarily decrease because original objects are still present. Preserve an uncropped version for later changes. Use Add PDF margins instead when the document needs additional room for notes, stamps or printing rather than a reduction of its visible area.
A practical check before using the result
Before cropping a batch, identify the page whose content comes closest to each edge. Use those four references to choose measurements that preserve information elsewhere. Uniform visible space on the cover does not establish that every sheet has the same layout. Include handwritten notes when assessing content bounds. After cropping, inspect words near the new limits and test intended printing. For data that must disappear permanently, remember that reducing visible boundaries does not remove original objects. The smallest readable crop and a secure information removal procedure address different objectives.
Settings and limits
Enter millimeters for each edge. Cropping changes the visible area and retains hidden content; it does not securely remove sensitive information.
Up to 120 MB and 500 pages per document. Output copies also support up to 500 pages. Encrypted PDFs are unsupported. Check links, forms, annotations and signatures after editing a document. Available memory may require smaller batches.
Frequently asked questions
Does it delete content outside the crop?
No. Hidden content remains inside the PDF. Permanently removing confidential data requires a redaction tool.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Your file and result are processed locally in your browser. No account is needed.
Is it free, and do I need to sign up?
Yes, it is free. You do not need to sign up, create an account or install an app, and there is no daily quota: open the tool and use it. The only limits are file sizes, which protect your device’s memory.
Does it leave a watermark on the result?
No. Snipshed adds no watermark, logo or text of its own to the files you download: the result is yours exactly as you configured it.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, from your phone’s browser (Safari, Chrome…) and without installing any app. When it finishes, the file is saved from the browser itself: on iPhone it appears in the Files app and on Android in Downloads. With very large files the phone may run out of memory; try a smaller file or a computer.
Guides
Hide scan borders with careful measurements and understand why contents may remain inside the file.
Enlarge sheets without scaling their contents and check dimensions and interactive elements in the copy.
