How to use this tool

  1. Paste text and enter the exact string to find.
  2. Enter its replacement and choose the first match or all matches.
  3. Inspect words containing the string: matching is not restricted to whole words.

An example you can verify

Replace a specific label or word throughout a text block.

Example input

Project A / Project A

SettingsFind: A. Replace with: B. All matches enabled.

Expected result

Project B / Project B

Search is literal: a period does not match any character. Check the all-matches option before running.

Find and replace text: uses and practical guidance

Find and replace changes a specific character sequence throughout a passage, such as a label, recurring expression or separator. It can update an old name or prepare data that requires another delimiter. Searching is literal, so symbols are treated as part of the text you enter. You do not need to construct a regular expression to identify the content to substitute. The exact search string is therefore central to getting the intended result.

Decide whether uppercase and lowercase should be distinguished. A search for a brand name may need to preserve the same letters used as an ordinary word in another context. Also inspect matches inside longer words: replacing a short sequence can modify fragments you did not intend to target. Include enough surrounding context, such as spaces or punctuation, when that helps identify the intended appearances more accurately. A broad match can affect more text than expected.

Leaving the replacement empty removes the matching sequence. That can remove a recurring label, but may also join words that were previously separated. Check the context around the first match and one near the end. When applying several substitutions, their order matters because an earlier operation may create matches for a later one. Keep intermediate copies if you need to explain how the final output was produced or recover an earlier state.

Replacement does not understand grammar, links or data fields. Altering a name within a URL or technical identifier can affect its function. Clean text is more suitable for general whitespace normalization, while Text comparison helps inspect changed lines between versions. Read representative modified areas before copying the result and verify that appearances meant to remain untouched are still present, particularly in mixed content containing both prose and technical values.

A practical check before using the result

When updating a name, prepare examples where it appears alone and inside other words or addresses. Check what changes under the chosen rule before processing the whole block. Correct replacement modifies intended appearances while preserving unrelated content. Afterwards, search for the old expression to inspect what remains and the new one to review its contexts. For a delimiter change, test an entry already containing that character as part of its value. Output inspection is necessary because literal matching does not distinguish content from structure. Keep a prior copy when several substitutions will follow, so a later unexpected match can be traced to the operation that introduced it.

Settings and limits

Enter the text to find and its replacement. Replace all matches or just the first. Regular expressions are not interpreted.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use symbols such as $ or periods?

Yes. Both search and replacement are treated as literal text, including special symbols.

Is it free, and do I need to sign up?

Yes, it is free. You do not need to sign up, create an account or install an app, and there is no daily quota: open the tool and use it. The only limits are file sizes, which protect your device’s memory.

Is my data sent to any server?

No. What you type or paste is processed in your browser’s memory and is not sent to any server. You can check it in the browser’s Network tab or by going offline after the page has loaded.
