How we handle your data →How to use this tool
- Paste one option per line and choose how many you need.
- Enable no repeats to treat identical entries as one option.
- Generate; with repeats enabled, an entry written several times has more weight.
An example you can verify
Choose one or more list entries without selecting every item.
Example input
Ana Luis Marta
Expected result
Two different choices from the three available.
A no-repeat count cannot exceed unique options. Shuffle list is for retaining every entry.
Random list picker: uses and practical guidance
Picking random list items selects part of a collection of options. It can choose a practice topic, activity or simple data sample. Enter one option per line and request the desired quantity. Review whether entries represent distinct choices or separate participations before generating, because that difference determines how repeated text should be handled. The selected mode should reflect the meaning of the list rather than merely its appearance.
Without repeats, identical lines count as one option. If two matching entries were intended as independent participations, that rule changes the collection. Use distinguishable labels when participations genuinely need separate identities, without adding unnecessary personal data. The requested quantity must not exceed the available unique options. With repetition allowed, the same option can appear more than once. Inspect those rules before relying on the output for an activity involving multiple entries.
Selecting a subset differs from shuffling the entire list. This picker may return fewer items than were supplied. Shuffle list preserves every entry, including duplicates, while changing order. A selection can match a previous one, and generating again does not guarantee a different person or topic. Define the procedure before examining outcomes when consistent rules matter, rather than modifying inputs in pursuit of a particular result.
Check that all selected entries were present in the source and that quantity matches the settings. Save the initial collection and output if the test choice must be remembered. The tool does not certify competitions or maintain an external draw history. Informal decisions may need only the selection, while processes requiring verifiable evidence need additional documentation. A small sample should not be treated as a complete statistical representation of the entire collection.
A practical check before using the result
For a practice selection, include two identical lines in a sample and inspect the no repetition option. Review labels before using real data if they should represent separate participations. Record selected quantity and retain the list available at that moment; later changes prevent explanation against the same reference. Describe any repeated generation and its reason when others review the procedure. Saved output records a choice but does not independently establish the complete operation history. Use full shuffling when every entry should remain in another sequence rather than requesting a partial selection. Confirm the source meaning and selection mode together before interpreting who or what the returned entries represent.
Settings and limits
Write one option per line. Empty lines are ignored. When Do not repeat options is enabled, identical lines count as a single option. Each entry is equally likely to be chosen; with repeats enabled, writing a name several times increases its weight. This is not a certified draw.
